One of the best ways in which to discover the Municipality of Meaford is to join in the award winning Big Red Chair Tour, which is active between May & October. Ten over-sized Muskoka chairs have been placed in scenic locations throughout the Municipality where you will discover local history and nearby attractions for you and your friends or family to experience.

Beyond the celebrated Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre, you’ll discover the culturally significant personalities who have at one time called the Municipality of Meaford home. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of renowned artist, Tom Thomson who is buried in Leith. Walk the Trout Hollow Trail to discover where John Muir, the founder of the Sierra Club and the man considered by many as the father of the National Parks system in the United States once lived and was inspired. Across the road from the Trout Hollow Trail you’ll find Beautiful Joe Park named after “Beautiful Joe”, the hero is Margaret Marshall Saunders’ best-selling novel of the same name, about the brave dog she met while living here in Meaford.

If you love events, Meaford has a variety to keep you busy all year long. From the award winning Scarecrow Invasion and Apple Pie Trail, 1000th Foot Urban Slide, Meaford International Film Festival, a weekly farmers market or the many music themed concerts and events, you’ll soon understand why people are saying “I love it here.”
