Durham Seasons

Durham is a town in the amalgamated community of The Municipality of West Grey.

THE MUNICIPALITY OF WEST GREY, located in Southwestern Ontario, is an amalgamated municipality, consisting of the former Townships of Bentinck, Glenelg and Normanby, the former Village of Neustadt, and the former Town of Durham. West Grey is the largest municipality in the County of Grey, in terms of geographic area, and has a population of approximately 12,000.
West Grey is within one-and-a-half to two hours of Highways 400 & 401, and within a half hour of commercial harbour facilities in the City of Owen Sound. The Saugeen Municipal Airport is a modern airport facility jointly owned by a number of municipalities, including West Grey, and is the Saugeen community's key to the provincial airport network, offering quality service to both recreational and commercial traffic.

West Grey is serviced by seven fire stations, of which three are municipally owned, and has its own police force providing protection 24 hours per day. The South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Durham site, located in West Grey, offers 29 beds and provides a number of local medical services, as well as 24 hour emergency service. The near-by Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound is the areas largest and most modernly equipped hospital facility, providing special care needs to West Grey citizens.
The rural ambience is the overall charm of West Grey. Watered by three branches of the mighty Saugeen River on its headlong rush to Lake Huron, fishing is a major pastime for locals and visitors alike. Touring West Grey in any season is a treat, but especially so in the fall as Mother Nature dresses in autumn finery. Snowmobilers enjoy the municipality's vast area for their sport each winter. West Grey has many campgrounds and conservation areas for nature lovers.Stroll past quaint shops, housed in stone architecture in the Heritage Village of Neustadt, named by Harrowsmith magazine as one of Canada's prettiest villages, and visit the birthplace of the Right Honourable John Diefenbaker, Canada's 13th Prime Minister. West Grey also hosts the Durham Conservation area, a recreational area with two public beaches, developed along two and a half miles of the main Saugeen River. McGowan's Falls in Durham is a picturesque spot complete with a picnic pavilion, and kayakers and canoeists are often seen practicing their sport above the Falls. The village of Ayton, in the centre of a prosperous farming
community, is a neat little rural village nestled on the banks of the South Saugeen River.
