The Shields McLaren Conservation Area property on the southwest shore of Lake Talon was donated to the North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority by Basil and Juanita McLaren in 1993.

This Conservation Area provides local cottagers and the public with an opportunity to enjoy the natural and historic features of Shields Point. Informal hiking trails weave through a mixed stand forest, highlighting natural and historical points of interest.
