Thamesville is located in the amalgamated community of Chatham-Kent.
Located in the eastern part of Chatham-Kent, Thamesville (population 930) is located within a few minutes of Highway 401. It is a picturesque rural community with a celebrated history.
Thamesville offers a unique setting for those looking to enjoy small-town life while remaining close to the amenities of larger communities. The town’s quaint downtown offers an impressive selection of restaurants, shops and services, while Chatham and London are both a short drive away.
Bulldog Steel Wool is manufactured in Thamesville. Thamesville is also home to the Westover Treatment Centre, a place where individuals can access counselling, guidance and support while recovering from addictions.
The town has a long and colourful history. It was the site of Battle of the Thames during the War of 1812 and a monument to the Shawnee War Chief Tecumseh is located just outside of the town. In October 2013, a re-enactment took place on the grounds as part of the bicentennial celebrations of the war. Thamesville is also the birthplace of noted Canadian author Robertson Davies, who based his Deptford Trilogy on his experiences in the town.
Each year Thamesville hosts the Threshing Festival in the month of June. The festival’s attractions include a parade and midway rides. Thamesville is also home to the iMaze, a corn maze that hosts hundreds of visitors of all ages every autumn. Residents looking to keep fit can access several athletic fields, an outdoor swimming pool, and a skateboard park.
