This trail connects Marathon to Heron Bay and Lunam Lake. This trail offers an amazing view of Heron Bay from a lookout and the calm shores of Lunam Lake. The section from Lunam Lake to Heron bay is the most difficult part of the trail. From the lookout there are a series of rock piles which are used to continue on the trail. A large portion of that section of trail is an uphill climb over rough terrain. In a few places the trail can be wet.
Past Lunam Lake the trail becomes much easier to walk on however close to Hawks Ridge, at Craigs Pit the ground is littered with large pebbles making the terrain slightly rougher. The trail intersects the old Voyageur trail so make sure to follow the better kept trail. Both the new and old sections of the Voyageur Trail connect to the Hawks Ridge Trail.

Good day,
I am not sure if I’m
Writing to the right place.
Last summer 2021 I checked into a hike from Heron Bay to the Mouth of Pic. As researched prior and was informed it would be a 3-4 hr hike. I started out around 10 am. The trail started of fine. I went to far then the trail seemed to go dead. I need up circling back around to same place and as I thought I better just go back to where
I started. I ended up getting off trail as no markers back. When I figured I was lost and top it off
My cell went dead and because of a slip my compass smashed.my next move was to go towards the lake, as I walked on I literally hit a high roach wall. I had to go around so I went towards where my direction was towards water. Eventually hitting water, I came around the corner to what i thought I be seeing the Lafarge which was to be a tiny shape across the lake. I knew a storm was coming. I was glad that I decided to take overnight camping gear. Storm
Was bad on the coast even though I moved in pass the brush line.I did end up walking back towards home
Using the coastal as my
Means of direction to get back home. After walking for about 6-7 more hours and 3 brush with almost life threatening slips and falls. I was finally picked up by police rescue boat.
My questions are?
Why is this trail advertised all over and it is not complete? ( which was prior to covid)
Why not make a costal trail to enjoy the coast of Superior not the bush?
My suggestion also would be a simple check in board where the information post are.
Thank you for your comments and sorry for your experience. Suggest you get in touch with the Voyageur Trails Association at info@voyageurtrail.ca
What was the ski resort called? When did it close?
I don’t know if this is the ski hill to which you refer. However, there was a ski hill known as Superior Slopes Ski Hill – sitting by the Tourism Information Centre. It apparently closed at least 12-13 years ago.
