Kemptville Campus Trails are located at Kemptville Campus Education and Community Centre which is a non-profit organization dedicated to realizing the full potential of our extraordinary, historic, publicly owned campus, offering a welcoming and sustainable working, learning and recreational environment for people from all regions of Eastern Ontario.

Barnside Trail:  This .7 km linear trail runs through campus, beginning at Curtis Avenue and providing a path to the Poplar Grove and Sugarbush trails. This trail travels through agriculture fields, passing by the old beef barn previously used for early experiments using biofuel and beef research. Enjoy the rural feel strolling by fields that are still actively being used for crops.

Dickinson Trail:  Running from Concession Road to Bedell Road, the Dickinson Trail is a wide, flat, 1.5 km easy walk through the heart of the campus’ arable farmland. With crops to one side and the forest on the other, you’ll pass Thompson Hall, an interesting structure once used to hold fertilizer for the fields. The buildings namesake was dedicated to local businessman, Eldon Thompson. The last portion of the trail takes you through mature forest, a road lined on both sides with lovely, tall maples.

Discovery Trail:  The Discovery Trail is a 0.8 km loop trail that takes you through the forest behind the Kemptville Campus. You’ll see the outdoor school used by the nearby students, and walk through an old orchard.

Pebble Drive & Curtis Ave Trail: Curtis Avenue and Pebble Drive offer an easy 1 km. stroll on a wide path that travels from campus parking through the forest, and connecting to other campus trails

Poplar Grove Trail:  When you take the Rail Trail to the .9 km Poplar Grove Trail, you’ll explore diverse areas of the campus including beehives, a nut grove, and the Sugarbush forest. This trail links the Rail Trail, the Sugar Bush Trail and the Barnside trail, with further extensions to come!

Sugar Bush Trail: Beautiful year-round, this trail meanders through the Peter Wensink Forest. Choose the short or long loop, under the beautiful, mature maples of an operating sugarbush! In the springtime you can see the sap running through the lines on its way to the sugar shack of the Campus’ Agroforestry Centre.  In summer, this trail offers a cool, shaded, nature walk where you can spot many species of birds, rabbits, and other woodland animals. In autumn, the maples sing a harmony of yellows, oranges and reds that will take your breath away. Although in its natural state in the winter months, this area is suitable for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing depending on snowfall levels.
