Button Bush Trail is in the Big Sandy Bay Management Area, a place so special that you won’t want to share it with anyone else! The extraordinary beauty, the diversity of nature and the breathtaking expanse of the large shallow bay, provide a wonderful escape.
Beginning in a meadow and hedgerow habitat at the trailhead, you will traverse three other distinct eco-systems as you proceed along the 1.3 kilometre Button Bush Trail:
- Wetlands with beaver lodges, turtles, frogs, dogwood, ferns and many species of birds
- Woodlands with sugar maple, American beech and red oak playing host to deer, muskrat, raccoon, mink, fox, porcupine, snapping turtle and the nests of the rose-breasted grosbeak and the redheaded woodpecker
- Dunes and the sandy beach shoreline providing a special coastal ecology.
Come for a swim, a picnic and to appreciate nature.
